LIGHT THE NIGHT 2017

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk in! Thousands of people came out on Saturday night to support, celebrate, and remember those affected by blood cancer in the Sacramento area. We hope you grabbed a StemExpress water bottle by the Orchard gate and said hi if you were there

Each registered walker at the Light the Night event received a lantern to carry with them on their walk: red for supporters, white for survivors, and gold for those walking in remembrance. Seeing so many gold lanterns in the hands of children and families reminds us why we at the StemExpress Foundation work so hard to help accelerate research for treatments and cures.

We met so many people soldiering through tests and treatments, support groups and trials. People commuting hours and hours for each visit to a doctor or clinic offering their best chance. Each of these people is a white lantern. Despite the threat of rain, these folks came out to raise awareness and hope, showing that weather, like blood cancer, can’t keep them down.

Most of the lanterns we saw were red for supporters: family, friends, and coworkers of Leukemia and Lymphoma patients. It was uplifting to see teams coming together in matching shirts or carrying signs showing support and love for their star survivor. Even though it was a serious event, teams were determined to have a good time: chanting, singing, and sometimes dancing their way through the course of the walk, bringing awareness and levity to the streets of Sacramento.

We were so happy to be able to reach out to the community and talk about biomedical research and its power to change lives. If anyone who received our flyer has any questions, please give us a call! We would love to talk to you about research, blood donations, community outreach, or anything else we can help with. If there is anyone you think may be interested in donating blood for medical research, go ahead and pass the flyer on to them!

Scientists are working on screenings, treatments, and cures for Leukemia, Lymphoma, and other cancers, but they can’t do it alone. To complete their projects, they need rare blood samples from people with these conditions. We are here to provide those samples and facilitate that research.

Let’s accelerate research together and keep those white lanterns lit!
