StemExpress Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) are isolated from peripheral blood by apheresis. Apheresis samples are lysed to remove any remaining red blood cells and washed numerous times to remove residual platelets. At the end of the procedure, the PBMC fraction contains an enriched lymphocyte (T-cells, B-cells, and NK cells) and monocyte population with little hematocrit or granulocyte contamination. PBMCs provide an important source of cells whose functions are the focus of a variety of research studies spanning diverse fields including Immunotoxicology, Autoimmune Diseases, Infectious Disease, and Immunology.
