StemExpress was mentioned in last week’s Sacramento Business Journal’s article “Behind the List: What exactly qualifies as a biotech company?”
What exactly do we mean when we talk about biotechnology companies? Before researching lists for the paper, we often must arrive at a definition first.
Back in the 1990s, when we first began publishing a biotech list, we found the following definition to be useful: Biotechnology is a combination of advances in understanding molecular and cellular biology; plant animal and human genetics; and how the human immune system fights disease. On this week’s list, you will see companies that research, develop or manufacture such things as human and animal vaccines, industrial enzymes and plant genetics.
