We asked our StemExpress staff “what advice would you give to our donors?” and were shocked to see most of our staff answered the same way. Most of them said DRINK MORE WATER.
Why is that important?
About half of your blood is made up of water so it’s very important to hydrate before and after your donation. It is suggested to drink about 16 ounces of water within two hours of blood donation and to avoid drinking caffeinated or alcoholic beverages as these tend to lead to dehydration.
Drinking water has many benefits for everyday health but being hydrated at blood donation has a huge impact on “plumping up” your veins. This allows our staff to easily find your veins, allows for a larger blood donation and a faster blood collection time.
